It is thanks to the generosity and efforts of the many volunteers working in our parishes that we can continue the Church’s Mission – To bring Jesus Christ and His message to our world.
All volunteers involved in any sector of pastoral life need training, support and appreciation to continue to answer the call of their Christening and accomplish their ministries.
The Church has the responsibility to help those who are vulnerable (children, youth and vulnerable adults) by providing them with a safe environment where they may receive proper attentions and treatment.
Our plan to protect these individuals demonstrates that we will do everything possible to fulfil this responsibility! -

For the Protection of Vulnerable Individuals"After this the Lord chose another 72 men and sent them out two by two, to go ahead of him to every town and place where he himself was about to go." (Luke, 10, 1)
After much discussion, the bishops of the Atlantic provinces have convened that measures must be put in place to prevent the wrongful treatment of vulnerable individuals in our communities. It is not simply a question of insurance, but also to have proper measures in place to assure the safety for everyone.
The Diocese of Bathurst has a diocesan policy for the prevention of wrongful treatment of children, youth and vulnerable adults. This policy, entitled "Diocesan Policy for Responsible Pastoral Ministry" requires a Criminal Records check for all people wishing to volunteer (Catechist Teachers, Extraordinary Ministers of Communion to the sick, volunteers doing pastoral visits to homes and residences, etc.) with individuals who are considered vulnerable due to their age and/or their health and wellbeing.
